Mitcham Plains is being considered a Growth Precinct. Be part of this action group to have your say.

Due to recent tree loss, character home demolition and urban infill development in Westbourne Park, we feel inspired to form a residents’ association encompassing Westbourne Park, Hawthorn & Cumberland Park, newly named “Mitcham Plains Action Group”. We believe our suburbs need a voice to Council and local Government.

Our local area has recently been designated a “Growth Precinct” under Mitcham Council’s Development Plan. In short, this means land use, height and density changes that will result in mixed dwellings that are taller but on smaller blocks. This will affect our tree canopy as developers raze blocks to create even smaller subdivisions, increase urban heat, put traffic pressure on our streets and affect the livability of our properties and street-scapes. how does this fit with our new “Special Residential Character Area” status? This is but one issue we are concerned with and we are sure other residents have many more!

We have put together a Mitcham Plains Action Group as of November 2020. We intend to meet as a community group to discuss how we can better promote the interests of our suburbs.

We’d love you to join us!
